Community conservancy water resources management
Project duration: Jan 2019 – Dec 2019
The Northern Rangelands Trust is a local non-profitable organization that supports 39 community conservancies spread across the drylands of northern and coastal Kenya and which are home to about 320,000 people. The organization works with local communities to conserve wildlife and reduce poaching, spearhead conflict resolution in conflict prone areas, sustainably manage rangelands, forest, and marine ecosystems to minimize resource-based conflicts. The project involved the assessment of water resources within two community conservancies to inform the development of 5-year conservancy water management plans to provide the conservancies with strategies and actions that will progressively improve water accessibility and reliability to enhance water security for domestic, livestock, agricultural and wildlife requirements in the conservancies.
